EGA expands recycling footprint with Eco Green stake

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) plans to acquire an 80% stake in Italian aluminum recycling company Eco Green.
The deal, which remains subject to regulatory approvals, marks the latest expansion for EGA, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside of the oil and gas sector.
Eco Green collects, sorts, casts, processes and distributes about 70,000 tons per year. The company’s plant in Villafranca di Verona in northeast Italy handles 23,000 tons of aluminum scrap annually. A portion of the sorted scrap feeds Eco Green’s nearby facility in Nogara di Verona, which casts more than 20,000 tons of secondary sows per year and also processes dross, according to the company.
Eco Green is expanding the Nogara di Verona facility to add 15,000 tons per year of recycled capacity. The project is expected to be completed early in the second half of 2026.
Eco Green serves more than 60 customers across Europe, primarily in the aluminum processing and semi-fabrication industries, with end users in automotive, construction, and other industrial sectors.
EGA expansion
The deal with Eco Green will bring EGA’s recycling capacity to more than 400,000 tons per year across the UAE, Europe and the United States, with an additional 200,000 tons of capacity under development in Europe and the US. EGA markets its recycled aluminum globally under the brand RevivAL.
Europe, excluding Russia, is the world’s third-largest recycled aluminum market after the United States and China. Recycled aluminum meets around 40% of Europe’s total aluminum demand. According to CRU Group, demand is expected to grow to around 7.2 million tons by 2033.
EGA acquired the German specialty foundry Leichtmetall in Hanover in 2024. In December, EGA announced a $170-million project to add 110,000 tons per year of scrap sorting capacity and 153,000 tons per year of melting and casting capacity. First hot metal is expected in 2028, according to EGA.
In the US, EGA Spectro Alloys completed an expansion in 2025, bringing total capacity to 165,000 tons per year of recycled aluminum ingots and billets. A second expansion, adding 35,000 tons of billet capacity, is underway. First hot metal is expected in 2027.
In the UAE, EGA began cast metal production in late February at its 185,000-tons-per-year aluminum recycling plant at Al Taweelah. Damage from a drone attack at its Al Taweelah plant has led EGA to declare a force majeure on some of its products.
