Rio Tinto aluminum production holds, AP60 expansion delayed

    Written by Nicholas Bell

Rio Tinto aluminum production held nearly flat in Q3 as higher output at several smelters offset the final closure of older potlines at its Arvida complex in Quebec. Meanwhile, the company pushed back the completion of its AP60 expansion and the opening of additional recycling capacity at the same site.

Overall, Rio Tinto aluminum production totaled 842,000 metric tons in Q3, flat from the Q2 and down 2% year over year. Production through September totaled 2.518 million metric tons, nearly unchanged from the first nine months of 2025.
