Mill Steel to relocate plant to Port of Houston
Written by Stephanie Ritenbaugh
Grand Rapids, Michigan-based metals distributor Mill Steel Co., is shifting its operations in Houston.
The company, which distributes aluminum, carbon steel and stainless, products, is relocating its facilities to a larger site at the Port of Houston. Both plants will operate during the transition.
Mill Steel says the direct access to the port will allow the company to receive up to 60,000 lb. coils straight from the water, reducing transit times and improving efficiency.
“This strategic advantage will allow the company to provide faster lead times on orders, ensuring customers receive their material quickly,” the company said in a statement. “Additionally, the expanded 100,000-square-foot space will support increased productivity and offer greater capacity for future growth.”
The new facility will offer Mill Steel’s full product line, delivering materials for construction, agriculture, manufacturing, and other industrial applications. In addition, the increased capacity will provide opportunities for third-party unloading and storage.
Mill Steel processes 1xxx-, 3xxx-, 5xxx-, and 6xxx-series aluminum for industrial manufacturing and specialized applications.
The company has been expanding in recent years. In 2024, Mill Steel acquired Maryland Metals Processing, a stainless and aluminum toll processor based in Baltimore. In 2023, Mill Steel purchased 90,000-square-foot facility in Mansfield, Ohio, to support its acquisition of Cleveland Metal Exchange in the same year. That deal signaled the company’s entrance into the flat-rolled stainless steel and aluminum markets.
Mill Steel currently has six service centers and 30 production lines.
