Written by Stephanie Ritenbaugh
AKFA Aluminum Solutions US LLC broke ground Monday on its proposed manufacturing facility in Bowling Green, Ky.
The project, first announced in December, marks the first Uzbekistani company to the US manufacturing base. The facility is expected to create 331 jobs.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
“This project is bringing great new job opportunities for Kentuckians in Bowling Green and the surrounding region,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in a statement. “I want to thank AKFA Aluminum’s leaders for believing in our great state and congratulate them on this important milestone.”
AKFA Aluminum Solutions operates the aluminum division of AKFA Group, one of Central Asia’s largest industrial companies with more than 8,000 employees across 20 facilities. AKFA Group produces up to 100,000 tons of product annually, supplying materials for global markets including construction, transportation and renewable energy.
The Bowling Green operation will function as a full-cycle aluminum production site. Capabilities will include extrusion, anodizing, and finishing capabilities, allowing AKFA to perform multiple processing stages within a single US location rather than relying on external tolling or offshore finishing.
The company said it plans to incorporate recycled aluminum billets into its production flow. The site is near multiple recycled aluminum billet producers.
“This facility will enable us to better serve our customers, create high-quality jobs, bring advanced manufacturing capabilities to south-central Kentucky and capture the invaluable manufacturing and innovation expertise based on our customers’ needs not only in the US but also in Uzbekistan,” said Alisher Srajidinov, chief operating officer of AKFA Aluminum Group.
“It is also important to highlight the opportunities created for businesses, particularly in terms of financing. Due to the conditions that have been established, we are in the final stages of securing funding from an American bank for the further implementation of the project,” Srajidinov said.
No construction completion date or expected production capacity has been disclosed.
