GE Appliances awards contract to RCM Industries for Louisville project
Written by Stephanie Ritenbaugh
GE Appliances announced more than $150 million in contracts have been awarded to US-based suppliers across 10 states for aluminum, steel, resins, parts, and components to support the company’s new washer and combo washer/dryer plant being built at its Louisville, Ky., headquarters.
Among the recipients is Franklin Park, Ill.-based RCM Industries, a family-owned manufacturer of aluminum high-pressure die castings. The companies did not disclose financial details.
“Joining GE Appliances supply chain marks an exciting next phase of RCM Industries’ growth,” Ethan Hamblen, CEO of RCM stated in a press release. “Expanding our role as a supplier to the appliance industry has been a priority, and this investment in US manufacturing gives us a meaningful opportunity to put that strategy into action.”
RCM is expected to supply aluminum high pressure die casting components that will be used to stabilize the drums on front-load washers and combo units. As a result, the manufacturer said it plans to make substantial investments in machinery & equipment, automation, and personnel.
The company has operations in Franklin Park and Wheeling, Ill., Rutherfordton, NC, and Liberty, SC.
This round of announcements by GE Appliances are incremental to its plan to invest $490 million to expand laundry production in Louisville that it announced earlier this year. And the Louisville project is part of the company’s five-year, $3-billion plan that it announced in August to bolster its US operations and reshore some of its production.
More than 95% of the steel and aluminum used in GE Appliances’ 11 plants is purchased from US suppliers.
Production of new washers and washer/dryer combos is slated to begin at Appliance Park in Louisville in early 2027.
