    Nexans to acquire Republic Wire

    Written by Nicholas Bell

Nexans plans to acquire Republic Wire to expand its US low-voltage wire business, adding manufacturing capacity and distribution reach.

Nexans signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Republic Wire, a US-based manufacturer of low-voltage copper and aluminum wire products headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The company values the transaction at about €680 million (USD$795 million), with a potential earn-out of up to €43 million based on performance through the end of 2027. Nexans expects to finance the deal through a combination of debt and existing cash.

The deal is expected to close early in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.

    Republic Wire operations

Republic Wire, founded in 1982, produces low-voltage wire and cable products for electrical wholesale distributors, utilities, and municipalities across the US and Canada.

Over the 12 months through February 2026, the company generated about €520 million in revenue. It operates a 32,500-square-meter manufacturing facility with automation and a recently completed 30,000-square-meter warehouse and distribution center.

The company completed an expansion program that is expected to be fully online by the end of 2026 and is expected to increase production capacity by about 30%.

    Nexans positioning in US

Nexans stated that the acquisition will expand its presence in the US low-voltage segment and add a nationwide sales network, where Republic Wire produces copper wiring products alongside aluminum low-voltage underground distribution cable, in contrast to Nexans’ US focus on higher-voltage cable products.

The company said the US market is one of the largest for low- and medium-voltage cables and is driven by demand in residential, commercial, and data center applications.

Following the acquisition, Nexans plans to maintain Republic Wire’s operations at its existing Ohio facilities.

    Nexans current US manufacturing

Nexans already operates a US manufacturing facility in Goose Creek, South Carolina, which produces power cables.

According to state permit records, the facility is identified as a high-voltage cable manufacturing unit that includes vertical continuous vulcanization lines, extrusion jacketing lines, degassing chambers, and a copper and aluminum stranding line.

The facility processes semi-finished cable through extrusion and coating operations rather than producing upstream aluminum inputs.

    Aluminum supply

Nexans’ Goose Creek facility operates as a cable manufacturing site and does not produce aluminum rod, based on permitted equipment.

Separately, Nexans signed an agreement with Alcoa in 2024 to receive aluminum rod produced using ELYSIS technology initially developed at Alcoa’s Technical Center near Pittsburgh. The announcement ties that material to Nexans’ facilities in Western Europe and Scandinavia.

Alcoa also produces aluminum rod in the US at its Massena West facility in New York. No public agreement links Nexans’ US operations or Republic Wire to that supply, however, the prior relationship between Nexans and Alcoa remains relevant.
