Edward Meir's week in review and thoughts for the week of Nov. 2, 2026

Tremors are appearing in portions of the US equity markets, with high-flying AI and tech names coming under considerable pressure last week. The S&P 500 declined 0.6%, and the Dow lost 0.9%. But the NASDAQ ended down 2%. In fact, at one point, the NASDAQ was off by nearly 10% from its all-time early October high, bringing it briefly into correction territory. The S&P 500 and the NASDAQ logged monthly losses in October as well. The Dow eked out a gain.

The reason behind the selling is growing investor concern about the enormous capital expenditures associated with AI buildouts. Markets are getting nervous about never-ending expansion plans and the amount of debt needed to see these projects to fruition.
