Commercial vehicle orders may be getting ahead of the market
Written by Nicholas Bell
Commercial vehicle orders have risen sharply in 2026, but the increase does not appear to represent a conventional demand cycle. Instead, fleets are making purchasing decisions around several overlapping clocks.
Class 8 buyers moved purchases forward before the 2027 emissions transition, while trailer buyers increasingly face tariff-related pricing uncertainty. Better freight economics and replacement needs provide real demand beneath both markets, but the timing of those purchases has made order growth look considerably stronger than current production and supplier sales.
